Upcycling My Wallet

Has this ever happened to you? You're on vacation and you are at the check-out of some store. You have no idea how many coins you need to fish out to get the exact change, but there's a long queue behind you and there's no time, to turn out all of the coins from your wallet and examine them one by one. So, every time you buy something, you always pay with a note, and your wallet just keeps on getting bigger and bigger until at some point it burst just like mine and all the coins ended up on the floor!  Yes, that's right, right in front of everyone, but there are nice people out there and they all helped the hapless tourist pick them up!

So I had a burst wallet - the metal parts just couldn't take it anymore. Fortunately, I could stick it back together again, but I decided to jazz it up a bit with buttons. What do you think so far? I hope they won't fall off.

Do you have kids who love football? This would be the perfect little DIY to get them involved - a mini foosball table game made out of a cardboard box. It is sure to generate fun and bonding time in the family.

Have You Been to a Fashion Swop?

Have you been to a fashion swop before? It's an event where you bring your old clothes and swop them with who ever takes a fancy to them. I've never been to one but there have been a few held in Singapore. I think one of the first fashion swops in Singapore was at the vintage-inspired fashion store, Swirl. I blogged about it here and they had lots of fun, especially when they had lovely cupcakes to go with the swopping!  They called it the Swirl, Swap, Swop! Unfortunately, the Swirl girls went onto other projects, and Swirl doesn't exist anymore, which is sad as I enjoyed their DIY tutorials.

Fast forward to today, and we now have several swop events taking place! Etrican and ECO Singapore co-organise swop parties. Plus, just last month, there was a Swap Meet held as part of *Scape's Share It community service weekend. Old bras were also collected under the Uplift Project and sent to various NGOs to be distributed to ladies in disadvantaged communities.
